Today's topic is all about arguing, and my personal views on the subject.

I'll use an analogy to describe my point, it may or may not apply to every case, but since this is my forum, I'll use it.

This particular argument begins with a pyramid, and three people facing each of it's sides. One states the pyramid is yellow, with smooth sides. Another says it is orange with vertical striations. The final one says they are both wrong, it is reddish with horizontal markings like hieroglyphics. Each is unwilling to concede that any of the others may be correct, as they have the evidence directly before them to support their point.

What is the point of the argument? It is each persons task to convey to the others the exact nature of the pyramid. As they attempt to do so, they are unable convince any of the others. Finally one of them sets aside their position and walks around the pyramid. Upon doing so this person sees that they are all correct, but they only had one viewpoint to go by initially to support their claim. This individual must now communicate to each of the others that they too must walk around the pyramid and they will all be ready to agree with each other.

Whether or not the others actually perform as requested the point becomes one of taking the time to examine all of the information available, and not merely our own position, before arguing whether we are right or wrong. Yet another point is that should we remain in one single position we shall never have all of the information needed to make a sound judgement.

So, next time you decide to argue over something, make sure you have all the information possible, and do not rely on a single bit of information to cloud your viewpoint. Take a moment to look at the question from all possible sides, and communicate that information as clearly and concisely as possible. You may find that you are in total agreement with the other person, or people, and save yourself a lot of time and frustration in defending an incorrect, or at least an uninformed point.

This is not meant to sway or change anyone, nor is it directed at anyone, it's just something I've always wanted to say and it was my turn, , *chuckle* you didn't Have to read the whole thing, but I hope you did. And I hope my mind didn't wander too much while I tried to convey my point.
