| INTERNET RELAY CHAT (or IRC) |
A series of many servers which connect people around the world.
There are quite a few "nets" which to log on to and many of them have differing
capabilities. EFnet is the one I generally use when I'm online, but Dalnet and Undernet
are still the most popular ones I am aware of. Links to the PC and MAC system programs can
be found below. |
| mIRC |
This is a popular program for PC's to use on IRC |
| Ircle |
This is the only MAC program I am aware of for IRC |
| AOL Instant Messenger |
Another method of chatting. AOL Members have this as a built in function of their software which comes with AOL. Users of other service providers can download and use AOL Instant Messenger HERE. One disadvantage of the IM package is that you cannot set up chat rooms between AOL and other users. IM users can set up chatrooms to use but cannot bring AOL members into the room and vice versa. |
| ICQ |
Another FREE program for chatting. It takes minimum setup and you can find other users by several methods. It can be downloaded HERE. A listing of additional ICQ Servers HERE |
| YAHOO Chat |
This is a group (large) of chatrooms which utilize a Java based set up. You must have a Yahoo login to use these rooms as well as joining the individual rooms you wish to use. One such room for the Renaissance Individual is: http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/renaissancefun |
| WenchChat |
This is a special web-based chatroom set up on the pages of the International Wenches Guild and can be accessed through the main page and going to "Communicate" then select "Chat" Begin at the Home Page to go there. |
| The rest of them |
Yes, there are a lot more that I have never used and have no way to recommend them or where to get them.If you happen to know of one that just Has to be included here send me an e-mail and I'll be happy to include it for you here. |
